Sojourner Truth Honored with Google Doodle
Sojourner Truth was honored with the Google Doodle on February 1, the first day of Black History Month 2019.
The image was created by artist Loveis Wise, who spoke of what this project meant to her: "As a Black woman, illustrating Sojourner Truth was especially personal and meaningful to me. Her journey and persistence inspired major change in both rights for enslaved African-Americans and women. Her history is deeply rooted to my ancestors and others around the world." In creating the Doodle, she was inspired by photographs of Sojourner, as well as the fact that was the first African-American to win a court case when she won her son's freedom, symbolized by the courthouse shown in the background.
Google Arts and Culture has also created an interactive exhibit about Truth's life.
